The R-99 aircraft went into full activity in 2002 and since then has provided relevant services to environmental protection agencies and research institutes providing differential remote sensing services and fulfilling its role within the Amazon Protection System. However, there has been a decrease in demand for these services and also has reflected in the amount of published research that uses their images. This article aims through a bibliometric study to analyze the historical evolution of publications involving this theme, highlighting the importance and contribution of its images to aid research for environmental protection. The results showed that SAR was the most important sensor and the research in the environmental area were responsible for the majority of the publications. There was a big centralization of research in a few institutions and these have technical cooperation agreement, which facilitated access to images. There was a large reduction in demand of images and publications after 2011, but the statistics were not able to clarify the reason of this reduction.
